If it is critical to have a stable internet connection and you are depending on the equipment to endure rough conditions like vibrations and temperature difference, you can stresstest your transceivers in our testlab. Difference between industrial rugged transceivers and data center transceivers. 

Industrial transceivers are designed for long life in harsh conditions and environments, while business information technology (IT) transceivers are designed for data center applications. Dirt, dust, vibration, heat and cold are conditions that might be seen in an industrial environment, while IT switches often are placed in temperature-, humidity- and dust-controlled server rooms. 

Fiberworks produce industrial transceivers made of rugged design with better protection for dirt, dust, heat, cold and vibration. The main differences from standard transceivers are packaging, especially the laser and receiver packaging, and additional heat dissipation parts. The transceivers are marked RGD (for Rugged) and can be found in different versions in our web shop.

Environmental Stress Screening

ESS, Environmental Stress Screening, is a way to qualify and prove the transceivers for harsh environments. The items are subjected to vibration and high and low temperatures, specified by different customer required specifications, for example API 17F (Specification for Subsea Production Control Systems) or IEC 60068-2 (Environmental Testing of Electronic Equipment), to prove the design. 

The ESS tests are intended to reveal any flaws in production and thereby qualify the items for rugged environments where reliability is of utmost importance. During the ESS test, Fiberworks are stressing the transceivers with 100 % traffic generation throughout the test. Any minor issue that would not be revealed in a regular factory acceptance test, for example a one microsecond service disruption time due to a certain vibration frequency, will be revealed in this test. Hence you can install the transceivers with good confidence that it will work in any required situation without interruptions. 

Fiberworks can also ESS test any other required equipment, fiber optic, electrical, passive or active (dependent on size).
